The April cooling visit
A technician cleans and tests the outdoor and indoor parts of the air conditioner a month before the first hot week.
April is early on purpose. A clogged drain line or a weak capacitor is a small fix now and a hot-night call in July.
Signs it needs a look sooner
Water around the indoor unit or a drain line that overflows
Ice on the refrigerant line outside
Air from the vents that is cool, not cold
A hum from the outdoor unit that does not start the fan
A utility bill that has crept up with the same use

At the visit
What happens at the visit
- 01
Step 1: We arrive in the window we texted
A technician with a shoe cover set. The outdoor unit is clear of leaves and clippings by the time we start, or we clear it.
- 02
Step 2: Look, then measure
Coil and fan inspected, drain line flushed, thermostat set to cool, then pressures and temperatures read with the system running.
- 03
Step 3: Electrical and drain
Capacitor and contactor tested, connections tightened, condensate line and pan checked and cleared.
- 04
Step 4: The note
A written note with the readings and any part that is weak. Repairs are quoted in writing, and nothing starts until you say yes.
The cost
What moves the cost
No dollar figures here: the plan covers the visit, and anything beyond it is quoted in writing first.
Refrigerant type
The type your system uses sets what a top-up or a leak repair involves.
Age
Older systems may need parts that have to be ordered.
Access
A unit on a roof or in a tight side yard takes more time.
Drain line
A line that has to be re-run is a bigger job than one that is flushed.
Electrical parts
A failed capacitor is a small part; a failed compressor is a different conversation.
Tonnage and match
An indoor coil that does not match the outdoor unit changes the options.
Questions
Questions about this work
Do I need to be home?
Someone over 18 does, to let us in and to hear the note at the end.
Is the visit in April, or when it gets hot?
April, ahead of the first hot week. That is the point of the calendar: the visit happens before you need it.
What if my air conditioner is older?
We tell you its age and its readings in the note. If a replacement is worth discussing, we say so, and we say when it is not.
